Pranayama is control on our breath.In this,we prolong inhalation,exhalation time.And,then slowly,we learn to hold our breath.Practising this helps to bring our breath under our control.Hence,controlling our breath further controls our mind.
Kapalbhati and Nadi Shuddhi are considered to be the inital stages of Pranayama.We classify pranayama in two categories: Basic And Advanced.
In Basic Category,we generally practise Ujjai,Bhastrika,Sheethali,Shitkari,Analom Viloma etc.
In Advanced Category,we practise Basic Pranayama along with internal and external retention. Also,we practise bandhas like Uddiyan Bandha,Jalandhar Bandha,Mool Bandha etc.
